The Forgotten Type of Promotion
November 3, 2006
We often talk about promotions when talking about career management – people always ask me: “why am I not getting promoted as quickly as I want?”
And, by “promotion”, people often think about one of two things:
1. More responsibility and a job title that denotes that responsibility.
2. More money.
When talking to a friend of mine recently, I reminded him that there’s a third type of promotion that most people forget about – a job with the same responsibility and the same money that is more fun and is better suited to your personal skills.
These are the promotions that we most easily forget about when getting caught up in the “rat race”… in fact, they’re the promotions that can only be thought about when you get out of the rat race.
What job could you get promoted to that would reflect this third type of promotion?
